Long life and Joyous blessings

Read Proverbs 23:19

The statistics are in and the verdict is clear: People who wisely regard
physical health as a priority tend to live longer than people who treat their bodies carelessly.

On average, those who don't smoke, don't abuse alcoholic beverages, avoid sugar and caffeine, eat high-fiber and low-fat foods, and exercise regularly live up to ten years longer than those who have poor health habits.

That shouldn't come as a surprise. After all, God says in His Word that taking care of the body He gave you is wisdom. And He rewards those who live wisely with longevity and good health.

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? . . . Therefore honor God with your body (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

The Book of Proverbs is made up of general principles, rather than particular promises. It would be a mistake to suppose that when a proverb says the wise will live long lives, there are no exceptions to that rule.

Wisdom is more like common sense. Though there are exceptions, living wisely generally brings blessing; living foolishly generally brings only misery. Here's a wise, commonsense judgment: If you take care of your body, your body will take care of you for a long time.
